Oilers News: Souray gone, Horcoff Captain, Roster for game 1

The media mongols made one last attempt to spread a rumour and gather some quick hits on their respected sites yesterday. The way I see it, it's easier to deny these trade rumours, because you usually end up correct by doing so. Nope; Souray, Cogliano and a draft pick wasn't traded to Calgary for Sarich and Glencorss.

Were they really expecting us to believe that the Oilers would give away a draft pick in a rebuild mode? It's against what the Oilers are trying to accomplish. I said yesterday on the cult of hockey that the Oilers will swallow the money before giving up their draft picks, and that is a certainly what they did.

Souray will start this season in the minors, playing AHL hockey for the first time in 13 years. You'd assume he's playing for the OKC Barons, but that's not gonna happen. Tambellini made it quite clear he didn't want Souray to be anywhere near his prospects. A deal was struck with Washingtons Capitals Farm team, the Hershey Bears. It will see the Oilers loaning their 4.5 million dollar player while they continue to shop him.

Shawn Horcoff was indeed named captain as discussed here

Season Opener is slated for Thursday, what I expect for lines:

Penner - Gagner - Hemsky
Hall - Horcoff - Eberle
Paajarvi - Cogliano - Brule
Jones - Fraser - Stortini

Whitney Gilbert
Smid Foster
Vandermeer Peckham

Khabibulin - Dubnyk
