                                                                  Our Thoughts:

    This was a good warm up for the battle of Alberta. It wasn't a disappointing game by any means as the score didn't match the quality of the game. The big 3 were ghosts tonight and were getting pushed around by the Flames D-core. It seemed the physicallity of the game caused the young bucks to be timid and lose focus. It's not like the Oilers didn't have many scoring opportunities, because they did, it's just they didn't capitalize on their chances. The Oil gave Calgary too much PP time and in the end we payed for it. The Oilers played with a lot of energy that they couldn't harness in the right areas. Hopefully round 2 there will be a better result.

Player Analysis:
                                                                               Orange= Player of the Game
                                                                                 Red= Goat of the Game
                                                                                 Blue= Warrior of the Game

Jim Vandermeer: Vandies night ended early, as he got the gate for starting an altercation during another fight. He had a good battlet with Jackman. At least he went out with a bang.... literally.

Taylor Hall: Hall had his worst game in an Oiler uniform. His first shift Staios rocked him, that rattled him for the rest of the game. He was being manhandled in the corners by the Flames defenders. It seemed that Hall was on his knees more then his skates.

Ladislav Smid: Smid had a typical defensive minded game, it's not such a bad thing when a player like him isn't noticed.

Ryan Whitney: Whitney didn't play as well as his previous games. He was a -2 and gave the puck up a few times in his own end. Maybe he missed Petry's presence out there or his noggin is still a little rattled from that puck he took in the chops in his previous game.

Shawn Horcoff: It seems that Horc is the heart and soul of his linemates. What we mean by that is when he is on his game so are his wingers; but when he's off his game - so are the kids. Its key for him to play at the best of his abilities to show the kids the way.

Jordan Eberle: Of his line, head had the best game - but thats not saying much. Unlike Hall, Ebs didn't get pushed around that much. He looks a lot stronger on his skates compared to his previous games.

Kurtis Foster: Kurtis played the body a bit, but he wasn't that effective. With his quick release he needs to shoot the puck more, as it will open up passing lanes for the players on the half boards.

Ryan Jones: Jones continues to mould into an agitators role. We expect that Jones will be on the 23 man roster. When Jacques comes back from the I.R, Tambo will have to make a tough decision.

Steve MacIntyre: This was by far big Macs best pre-season game. He was 2/3 on getting the Gordie Howe Hat trick. At the beginning of the game he had a good tilt with Ivanans that fired up the team. Early in the 2nd he tipped home Peckhams shot to give the Oil a 1 zip lead. Its unfortunate that he took the spearing at the end of the game as it might cost him a game or two.

Ryan O'Marra: He had an outstanding defensive game. It would be hard for the average fan to appreciate O'Marra's play tonight, but we're sure management notices.

Zack Stortini: This wasn't Zacks worst or best game, he got under the skin of Flames defenders and played hard. What he lacked in performance tonight he made up for with a gritty grizzly looking beard.

Theo Peckham: Theo made some great plays, and some horrible plays. Most of his outlet passes were spot on. The ones that weren't were bad giveaways that could cost him his job. On the bright side he got an assist on Mac's goal. He kept it simple and threw a little snap shot at the net.

Chris Vande Velde: Expect Chris to build his game up in the AHL, so that next year he might be ready to make the step up to the big league. Looks like a great 4th line prospect.

Tom Gilbert: We expected more out of Gibby as he has yet to build on last years late great performance. He needs to show he's worth the 4 million he's getting paid.

Ales Hemsky: Was the most noticeable player on the ice. The puck was stuck to his stick the whole game. He was one of the only Oilers generating scoring chances, it's too bad that he fanned on some of his early chances.

Liam Reddox: He lead the Oilers in hits and played a really physical game, he even got out of his comfort zone and got in a tussle. He looked like he was playing a controlled wreckless style game that is needed to play the 4th line role. He is making it tough for management to send him down.

Sam Gagner: Gags handled his own business tonight, but other than that he had a mediocre performance. He looks like he is slowly developing into the Oilers number 1 centre.

Magnus Paajarvi: He is gaining confidence but is still getting pushed around. He is growing chemistry with Gags and Hemi with their passing plays and cycling work, but he still needs to shoot the puck more often. He has one of the best shots on the team and he's only 19, use it kid.
