24 hour station called Sportsnet One. When there is a situation of having two games scheduled at the same time, one of the games will be shown on the regular Sportsnet West and the other on Sportsnet One.

I much rather watch Oilers hockey on TSN over Sportsnet; for I am not a fan of Gene Principe and his overuse of puns which are forced down our throats every moment his mug appears on television. Nor can I stand to listen to Louie Debrusk's failings as a colour commentator. Maybe their is a hidden agenda with the 58 games of Oilers hockey on sportsnet west. You will become so agitated watching the game on television you will attend the game live. But seriously, if the Oilers want to begin this season reborn, it's time for Sportsnet to reinvent themselves. The need for new faces have never been more apparent then now. The Oilers should understand that they are the laughing stock of the NHL. Sportsnet West surely isn't helping with that image.
Well said. I suppose the fans who only watch the odd game are easily amused with Principe. But when it comes to the viewer who rarely misses a game, it becomes very agitating to watch. Being annoyed by the poor play of the Oilers is one thing, being annoyed by the broadcasters is just the tipping point for me.
ReplyDeleteBOO FRICKING HOO!! The Broadcasters.... I'm so sick of everyone crying about how they hate the broadcasters. Do what I do, turn off the volume, turn on Rod Phillips and STFU!!! Would you rather Pierre talking about his manlove for Crosby and his "monsters" all game?? GOD!

ReplyDeleteRod Phillips was fantastic and unfortunately he is now retired. Besides, radio isn't in sync with the televised game.
Obviously you feel the need to turn off the volume with sports net. I'll take that as another unsatisfied viewer, and your another one who is taking my side. Thanks.
PS: I find Pierre to be entertaining; as much as people would hate to admit it - at least the guy does know hockey.
Could not agree more, Sportsnet's Oilers' coverage is like amateur hour, it absolutely stinks. I hear Gene Principe is a great guy, but he's the worst; I don't think he spoke a serious word until about game 80 last year. Somebody please put him or me out of our misery!
ReplyDeleteBring in one or two of the Team 1260 gang, at least they keep things relevant and interesting. Have a 4 or 5-man round table at the beginning, end, and between periods. That's what Oiler fans want to watch/hear, relevant discussion about their hockey team and hockey in general. Include real fans, if necessary, since people love reality shows these days.
The Sportsnet guys are nothing more than fluff. deBrusk improved a bit, but hardly expresses a real, fan-type honest opinion. He's so by the book, Gene's nowhere near the book, and Kevin Quinn is alright, I suppose, for the play by play.
It's all FLUFF! Edmonton is full of seriously knowledgeable hockey fans; that crap might work in Anaheim, or something, but not here in hockey country! I hope they grab a brain and restructure that. I, too, would have often listened to Rod on the radio, but with the timing off it's almost as annoying as listening to the Sportsnet guys. Ray Ferraro was the only good thing they had, and they let him go where any of the good ones go, to TSN.
This is going to be a very exciting team to watch, even if they lose alot this year. Please don't kill it with the same losers as the past year or two.

Here's another thought: Anyone noticed the huge difference between TSN HD and Sportsnet HD? I sure have. Well, I blamed it on what I figured were Sportsnet's inferior HD cameras. Turns out things like bandwith play a big role, and it can depend on how much someone like Shaw provides for that channel. Let's hope, for my eye's sake, they get an appropriate (or greater!) allowance of bandwith to proceed in trying to catch up to TSN's far-superior brand.
ReplyDeleteAnybody else know the parameters and details behind this?
Ya, I don't mind Kevin Quinn he's actually pretty decent. You could always have the Flames Peter Loubardias; absolutely horrendous play by play guy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your informative opinion Joy. Keep it up.
